What do you do in your role at The Next Step?
I started in The Next Step Inc. as a full-time Technical Writer. Since then, I've been switching hats to other roles as I continue to learn more and more about the company and its clients. Other things I've done include market research, video editing, video scripting, email campaigns, among others.
How/when did you first become interested in this type of work?
Since I was little, I've always wanted to write a novel of my own, but I never got to it. I started as a tech writer in TNS because of my technical background, and the writing just started to flow with the guidance of Jeff and the tremendous help from the team. I guess I could one day make enough time off to write that book.
What aspect of your job brings you the most satisfaction?
What gives me the most joy is getting time for our clients. I've been on the other side, in which you wish you just had more time to achieve everything you want (writing a book for example), but you have sooo many things you can't get to everything. So being able to give that to our clients is nice. When you complete a job they requested and you present it to them, you can truly see their happiness.
What unusual, non-work-related skills do you possess?
I like building things with my own hands and I think I'm good enough to make me dangerous. At home, I have multiple items I've built myself. Like a living room table, hanging lights, and a wood chandelier. Even a spice rack and toilet paper dispenser.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Three years ago I started playing tennis because "it looked easy and fun". Three years later I can tell you it's the hardest sport I've ever played. I believe that tennis is very much similar to everyday life. You have to be physically fit to succeed, but it's emotional stability and mental strength that gets you through the goal line. I was right about the fun part, though.
