Front-End Developer

Brief info

What do you do in your role at The Next Step?
As a Front-End Developer at The Next Step, my role is to build and maintain websites for our clients. With UI/UX and SEO principles in mind during development, I ensure that the client’s website provides a pleasant and highly effective experience to their users.

How/when did you first become interested in this type of work?
After working 5 years as an engineer in the medical device industry, I found myself dissatisfied with my career and I wanted to find something that was more in line with my interests. After exploring a variety of career fields, I stumbled upon web development when talking to some friends and decided to check it out. I found an online bootcamp that was on sale, ended up liking it so much that I finished it in 3 weeks, and I’ve been hooked ever since!

What aspect of your job brings you the most satisfaction?
One of the biggest draws of web development to me is that there’s always something to learn. It’s an environment of tireless innovation, which means there are always new technologies that I can add to my toolbox and it never gets stale.

‍If you have a pet, what do you most enjoy about them?
I live with 3 cats, and I love how they’re not alike at all. One loves people and will walk up to random strangers, one essentially thinks people are predators and hides on sight, and the last one loathes people in general unless you’re the one feeding her. Because of this, it’s funny how I have to use different tactics in order to successfully give them pets.

How do you like to spend your free time?
As of late the thing I enjoy most during my free time is drawing. It’s something I hadn’t really explored until recently, and it gives me an outlet to express myself in a manner I didn’t really have before. I also love to cook food because frankly, I like eating things that taste good! Lastly, I exercise on a frequent basis in order to keep myself disciplined and maintain my health.
