Front-End Developer
Brief info
What do you do in your role at The Next Step?
In my role as a front-end developer, I create, edit and add features to clients webpages. I do some work in back-end development as well with web servers and databases
How/when did you first become interested in this type of work?
I have always had a little bit of an interest in coding even though it hasn’t always been my career. I took a C# class way back in high school which was my first experience coding. I have always maintained interest over the years by learning little bits of Python here and there. But my interest in web development specifically started in the middle of the pandemic when I was really looking for a new challenge and something new to learn.
What aspect of your job brings you the most satisfaction?
I come from a career in education (I was previously a school counselor) and one thing I can’t be without in my work is the ability to be a creative problem solver. I love that web development always provides new challenges to tackle and a new situation every day. The feeling of being able to solve a novel problem and help clients navigate barriers is priceless.
If you have a pet, what do you most enjoy about them?
I have a 3-year-old cat named Indie and he is the absolute best! I have a soft spot in my heart for all animals, but cats in particular are near and dear to me. He is the most playful little guy– he loves hiding under my couch while I hit little foam golf balls across my living room, and he leaps out and attacks them.
What unusual, non-work-related skills do you possess?
I am an exceptional table tennis player. I grew up with a table in my garage and a competitive older brother, so naturally, my skills developed over time!
How do you like to spend your free time?
In my free time, I love creating and listening to music. I play instruments ranging from ukulele to tuba! I spend a lot of time playing card games with my partner as well. We also love traveling and exploring new restaurants and new foods. I am on an everlasting pursuit to find the best sandwich in every city I visit!
Credentials and Certifications
I am a graduate and certificate holder of the University of Washington’s Full-Stack Web Development Bootcamp. I am hoping to pursue additional certifications and education in coding as well.
